Tuesday 9/3/10 Polite request It has come to the Club's attention that a small group of Staines fans were heard making distasteful homophobic comments and chants at Woking on Saturday. Supporters are reminded that this is a serious matter that can result in criminal proceedings, but on this occasion we have been allowed to deal with it internally. We know the identity of those concerned, and they will be spoken to in confidence. In the meantime we would remind all fans to get behind our team by all means, but to keep your singing loud, fun, and clean, in order to promote the good values with which Staines Town has always been associated. Thank you.
Saturday 6/3/10 Woking 0 Staines Town 0 Today saw a group of supporters complete the twelve mile walk from Wheatsheaf Park to Kingfield in aid of the heart unit at St Peter's hospital. Unfortunately the quality of football on the field did not match their efforts in a somewhat uninspiring goalless draw. Still missing the injured frontline of Ali Chaaban and Marc Charles-Smith, Staines struggled to make any impact in the final third and it was really all about defending today to ensure a share of Blue Square South points. The closest effort on goal saw a shot cannon off Louis Well's upright as the Swans were reduced to ten men after Dominic Sterling saw red. In the end it was a relief to hear the final whistle and the Swans can see it as a point gained rather than two points dropped. Full report here.
Tuesday 2/3/10 Weymouth 1 Staines Town 2 A low bridge forced this match to kick off 20 minutes late as the Swan's double decker team coach had to to de-tour fourteen miles back out of town in order to reach the Wessex Stadium for this Blue Square South fixture. Despite the lack of pre-match preparation, Staines still managed to come away with the points, Howard Newton with a double strike either side of a Weymouth equaliser with all the goals coming at the end of the first half. The second half saw the Swans under the cosh, however they held firm to hold on for the three points and climb back up to third in the table. Full report here.
Thursday 10/12/09 Dream is over for Swans Millwall 4 Staines Town 0 Despite the scoreline, the Swans can hold their heads up high, putting up a brave fight before finally bowing out of the FA Cup at the New Den. They almost made it to half time without conceding as the defence held firm, however Louis Wells was powerless to stop Steve Morison's 40th minute shot as he was put through one on one. The Lions nearly made it two on the stroke of half time as Staines again managed to clear their lines. The second half saw the Swans push forward, however this left them even more vulnerable at the back as Jack Smith found the bottom corner to effectively kill off the game. Despite using all three subs, there was no way back for the Swans as they conceded further goals in the 79th and 90th minute of the game, but every single one of them can feel proud to have got this far and again shows that we are a team on the up. Over 500 Staines fans made the trip (one of the highest away crowds of the season at the Den) and outsung the home fans, coming across loud and clear to those watching live on the FA website. A small percentage are sure to come back to push up our average gate and the money gained from the cup run to help get the ground up to Conference National standard. All in all Steve Cordery's men again outweighed all expectations and did the club proud in reaching the FA Cup Second round twice in the space of just three years. Up the Swans!!!
