Friday 30th June 2006 Cords adds Carbon In what’s been a bust week of dealing at Wheatsheaf Park, Staines Town manager Steve Cordery has added three more new players to his Ryman Premier squad as the ‘Swans’ seek to go one better and reach a top five finishing spot in the coming season. Having already secured AFC Wimbledon full-back Dave Sargent and brothers Kevin and David Warner from Hayes and Windsor & Eton respectively, ‘Cords’ is delighted to announce the signing of energetic midfielder Josias Carbon from local rivals Slough Town. A rampaging wing-back as a young pro’ with Oxford United, he first played for the ‘Rebels’ on –loan at the end of the 2003/04 season before joining the Berkshire side permanently upon his release from the Khassam Stadium in the summer of 2004. Eighteen goals in the last two seasons underline the kind of attacking play and eye for goal this young player possesses and he will surely be a fine replacement for popular ‘Swans’ player Andre DeLisser who has departed the Club for Boreham Wood earlier this week. Also joining the ranks of the Wheatsheaf Park club this week are midfielder Stuart Goodall from Hayes and young cetral-defender Adam Thompson from rivals Walton & Hersham. Pre-season training begins in earnest on 1st July, with the ‘Swans’hosting Coca-Cola League One neighbours Brentford in a friendly match seven days later.
Tuesday 27th June 2006 Sargent gives his view Interview with Swans new signing Dave Sargent. SM - Dave, you must have been a little surprised and certainly disappointed to hear you'd been released from AFC Wimbledon? DS - Yes, it was a surprise. I'd been pretty much ever-present last season and so was looking forward to the coming season, so when the call came from Dave Anderson we met-up and he explained his reasons for having to let me go. I think maybe he (DA) might be changing the system there to a 3-5-2 and so as a full-back, I maybe fell out of his plans? SM - I gather Steve Cordery got hold of you pretty much straight away though, so did you really have time to dwell on it? DS - That's right, I'd sat down with Dave Anderson at the back end of last week and by the time Monday morning came around, Cords was on the 'phone and inviting me down to the Club for a chat. I did get a few other calls, but I was quite content with the invitation from Staines Town and so we met at the Club and after a tour of the facilities, my mind was quickly set on the move. SM - So you're happy to be coming to Staines Town then? DS - Absolutely, they're a big club in the area and clearly, one battling at the right end of the Premier Division. Playing against them last season at AFC, we felt Staines Town were one of the better sides for sure and maybe we were all a bit surprised when they didn't make the play-offs at the end of the season. Hopefully, I can help us make that extra step this time 'round. SM - So you hope to be a part of a successful side this season? DS - Yes, I'm looking forward to settling in quickly and being a part of a successful team. SM - Do you already know some of the players here at Wheatsheaf Park? DS - Not really, only by reputation and by playing against them. I did have a short time playing in the same side as Michael Currie at Northwood, but other than that, they'll all be new team-mates for me, but I'm sure I'll settle in quickly, I'm very much looking forward to it.
Friday 23rd June 2006 Swans Delighted to recruit Sargent Delighted Staines Town manager Steve Cordery has recruited experienced full-back Dave Sargent upon his recent release from Ryman Premier rivals AFC Wimbledon. Having released former Slough Town defender Michael Murphy earlier this week, Cordery saw former Fans Stadium favourite Sargent as the perfect replacement for the ‘Swans’. A consistent performer in the left-back berth, 28 year-old Sargent (left) often stood-in as skipper for the 'Dons’ last term and also contributed some vital goals, particularly from the penalty spot over his one season with AFC, in which he made over 50 senior appearances. A former Hendon and Northwood player, Sargent should slot seamlessly into the squad with the Middlesex side and is seen as an excellent signing by Cordery who also is close to revealing the names of two additional new signings in the coming week
Monday June 12th 2006 Cordery re-unites Warner brothers at Wheatsheaf Park Having secured the signature of influential Hayes skipper Kevin Warner in the last week, Staines Town manager Steve Cordery has now brought in younger brother David from neighbours Windsor & Eton, thus bringing the boys back together and on the same team. Age 24, David (a diminutive forward) had played alongside his older brother at Hayes until March 2005 when he moved to Stag Meadow, scoring half a dozen goals in the ‘Royalists’ relegation campaign last term. Whilst with Hayes, however he carved out a reputation as a talented and hard-working front-runner over four seasons. Like his brother, he’d previously played for local side Brook House, but David did move on to a spell on the books as a young professional with Watford, where a niggling injury eventually marred his ambitions of a career in the game.
Fixture News Please note the home game versus Wycombe Wanderers has been pushed back from Tuesday 25th July to Saturday 29th July. The Bucks club still confirm we will be facing a full first-team squad for this game. Unfortunately, this results in the postponement of our scheduled trip to Brackley Town who were unavailable to host us at any other time.
