Monday 27th June 2005 Match Posters It would be of great help to the club if a few posters to advertise games were put up around town. Please feel free to download the files below to promote the following friendlies if you can. Tuesday 21st June 2005 Shock as Lovett Departs A real shocker for Swans fans as we learn that loyal goalkeeper Matt Lovett has parted company with the club to join local rivals Hampton & Richmond Borough. Lovett has the distinct honour of being the only Swans player to work his way up through all the junior teams to eventually become a first choice regular for the club. A veteran of over 400 first team apprearances and nearly a thousand appearances at all levels - and all by the tender age of 25. Matt has already won 3 first team player of the year awards and is regarded as the finest shot-stopper in the league. A Staines man to the core, he will be dearly missed and everyone at Staines I'm sure will follow his future career with great interest. (Laurence Wakefield) Thursday 9th June 2005 Hunter returns to the fold Busy Staines Town manager, Steve Cordery has delighted the Wheatsheaf Park faithful with a successful bid to lure former striker Jermaine Hunter back from Conference play-off runners-up Stevenage Borough. The 24 year-old front-man first signed for the ‘Swans’ toward the end of the 2003/04 campaign and assisted in the promotion to the Premier Division, however he began last season in fine form scoring seven goals in ten games, culminating in a brace against local rivals Slough Town as the ‘Swans’ romped to a 4-0 win in September - a performance witnessed by Stevenage Manager Graham Westley, who put his offer in the very next morning to tempt the player to Broadhall Way. In a cracking start Jermaine scored two for the Borough in his first start, a 4-1 Conference defeat of Northwich Victoria later that month, however he all too quickly was knocked down the pecking order making just three more starts and six appearances from the bench. Jermaine finished the last campaign ‘on-loan’ with Conference South club Sutton United, scoring once in seven appearances. Appearing back at Wheatsheaf Park for the end of season celebrations at The Thames Club, it soon became apparent that Jermaine was considering a return to the Club and Manager Steve Cordery’s successful negotiations will certainly please the local supporters. A former junior with Fulham, who lists an F.A. Youth Cup semi-final against Arsenal as one of his early career highlights, he went on to appear for Chesham United, Boreham Wood and neighbours Walton & Hersham. (Stuart Moore) Monday 6th June 2005 Cordery's jigsaw nearing completion Having tied-up all but one of his squad from last season, Staines Town manager Steve Cordery has made good in-roads into completing his squad selection for the coming Ryman League Premier Division campaign. The‘Swans’ boss is set to lose just a single member of last year’s squad, with young full-back Jon McDonald setting his sights on progression to the Nationwide South and a prospective move to Sutton United, thus a search for a left-sided defender was just about top of the Manager’s priorities. Success on that front, however, as the highly-rated Michael Murphy has signed from neighbours and rivals Slough Town. Michael lives locally in Slough, he re-signed for the ‘Rebels’ in October 2003 (having briefly appeared in the Conference for them previously) and played a pivotal role in the Berkshire sides promotion to the Premier Division (alongside the ‘Swans’) in 2003/04. Last season he was almost ever-present, playing in the exciting run in the F.A. Cup and a Bryco Cup Final win at Wheatsheaf Park. A former Millwall junior and reserve who also played for Windsor & Eton and professionally in Finland. Another player to have agreed terms to come to Wheatsheaf Park in the last week is experienced 27 year-old front-man Dwayne Plummer. Previously linked with a move to the ‘Swans’ at the turn of last year, the former Bristol Rovers favourite, with over 50 Football League appearances to his credit, offered a tantalising glimpse of his talents at Wheatsheaf Park in a goalscoring ‘cameo’ appearance in a testimonial fixture against AFC Wimbledon last May. Dwayne is a former product of the Bristol City youth scheme, he went on to make 14 appearances for the ‘Robins’ and also played 41 times, scoring once for Bristol Rovers – making his debut in a Worthington Cup tie at Goodison Park, Everton in September 2000. Has also appeared in the Conference briefly for Stevenage Borough and Gravesend & Northfleet as well as spells with Chesham United, Aylesbury United, Bath City, Hendon (5 goals in 18 games,) Thurrock and one fleeting appearance for Kingstonian last season.
